Summary

Metal-detecting between 2002 and 2020 recovered prehistoric worked flints, including prehistoric and later prehistoric flakes, Neolithic scrapers and a flaked axehead, and Neolithic/Bronze Age scrapers and flakes; Late Saxon to post-medieval pottery sherds; a Late Saxon comb fragment; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon and post-medieval coins, post-medieval jettons; and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include Roman brooches and steelyard weight; an Early Saxon harness mount; a Middle/Late Saxon hooked tag and strap-end; a Late Saxon pin, brooch, bridle bit, strap-end, finger ring and pendant; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness pendant, spindle whorl, lead pot mend and key; medieval/post-medieval lead weights, a writing lead, sieve fragment, thimble, knife fragment and copper alloy vessel fragments and post-medieval harness mounts, a knife handle in the form of a horse's hoof, a stud or nail decorated with a fox, a crotal bell, furniture fitting, cloth seal, thimble, silver cuff-link, sword belt mount, and seal matrix.

Objects found before 21 December 2005 include a post-medieval knife handle in the form of a horse's hoof, and a late post-medieval stud or nail with incomplete decorative head. A fox with inscription around ]OUND WHIP MAKER OF BOR[. Probably mounted in the end of a whip.
