Name:Roman pottery works and ironworking site

Summary

Intermittent investigations of this site during the period 1954-97 recorded a number of Roman finds and features at this site. These comprised pottery sherds, coins, a gold finger ring, metalworking debris and the traces of several pottery kilns. In 1995 the western end of this site was scheduled as part of the adjacent priory (NHER 4255).

Full description

1954. Roman sherds, coins, building material found.
Pre 1969. Roman gold ring found.
1970. Excavation of Roman pottery kilns cutting Iron Age layers.
1977. Traces of possible further kiln noted.
1987. Fenland fieldwalking; Roman sherds.
1994. Neolithic flint found also Roman coin.
