Record Details

NHER Number:4250
Type of record:Monument
Name:Iron Age enclosure, possible deserted medieval settlement, multi-period objects

Summary

Metal detecting from the mid-1980s to the present day has recovered a large number of coins, pottery sherds and metal objects from the prehistoric to the post medieval period. These include an Early Saxon brooch and fragments of a medieval copper alloy dish or bucket. Aerial photography of this area has also recorded cropmarks that have been interpreted as settlement evidence. It is possible that this, in combination with the large number of objects, may indicate that was the site of a medieval settlement that has since been abandoned.
