Summary

A probable Bronze Age ring ditch is visible on aerial photographs. Neolithic and Early Bronze Age flint implements were recovered from the area in 1934 and Neolithic pottery fragments in 1963. Metal-detecting and fieldwalking between 1985 and 2012 have recovered a range of objects including prehistoric flints; pottery fragments from the Neolithic period onwards; Late Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and metal objects from the Bronze Age and Late Iron Age to post-medieval periods. The coin finds include a Late Iron Age coin hoard comprising four East Anglian silver units (one a plated copy with a copper alloy core). The other metal finds include a Late Iron Age/Early Roman brooch and toggle; Roman brooches; an Early Saxon sleeve clasp and toggle; a Middle to Late Saxon/early medieval hooked tag; Late Saxon silver bell fragments and medieval dress accessories.
