Record Details

NHER Number:35352
Type of record:Monument
Name:Possible Roman settlement, prehistoric to post medieval objects

Summary

Metal detecting in 2000 recorded a concentration of Roman objects, including pottery sherds, coins and metal objects, thought to represent a possible settlement. Fieldwalking and metal detecting have also recovered over 200 Neolithic, Bronze Age and Iron Age flints, as well as Iron Age, Early Saxon and medieval pottery sherds, and metal objects from the Iron Age to post medieval periods. A heart-shaped medieval brooch was also recovered from this area in 2000, as well as a medieval gold finger ring with a garnet. See record NHER 62027 for possible enclosures within this area, which could feasibly be associated with this potential area of settlement. See also NHER 61537 for banks and trackways in this area.
