Summary

Metal-detecting between 1998 and 2012 recovered a large number of Roman and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects and coins. Finds of note included a medieval strap end in the form of a tree, a post-medieval Nuremberg jetton, a harness mount in the form of an acorn in its cup and a fragment of heat reddened flint.

Full description

June 1998. Metal-detecting. Finder's Fieldwork no TRH1. [1].
Undatable incomplete circular flat lead disc with two recessed lines around outer edge of once face and italicise lettering (unclear). No obvious means of attachment. A seal? Polaroid taken.
Medieval strap end in the form of a tree. The triangular openwork knop represents the trunk and the branches while the circular attachment end has roots engraved on it around an oval perforation. Four bronze rivets would have originally secured the back plate, now missing; traces of white metal coating can be seen, particularly on the reverse. 15th century.
