Summary

Metal detecting in 1998-99 and in 2008 recovered a variety of multi period metal finds. The most interesting was a beautiful Colchester type Roman brooch.

Full description

April 1998. Metal detecting find. Context 2 at location [1].
Recovered a beautiful Colchester one-piece brooch. Rectangular-section wings, decorated on front with three vertical grooved mouldings. On reverse is a neat pin spring (half missing) and a forward-facing hook which curves down over the top of the bow to end in a disc decorated with a punched circle. Bow is fairly wide and flat and decorated with a wide central groove with two zig-zag mouldings within. No foot knob. Remains of perforated catchplate on reverse with rocker-arm decoration. Roman 1st century AD in date.
