Summary

Metal detecting in this area during 1995-2005 recovered a variety of multi-period objects and coins. Noteworthy finds included a Late Saxon disc brooch, a Roman patera handle fragment, a medieval gilded strap end buckle, a Late Saxon Ringerike mount probably from horse equipment and a post medieval seal with a rampant lion motif.

1995. Metal detecting finds.
Late Saxon disc brooch, Borre-derived, with 'ribbed' edges! Stub of lug on reverse and catchplate.
Medieval strap end plate.
Identified by S. Margeson (NCM) 21 June 1995.
Polaroid in file.
Bronze circular coin weight for a sixpence. D above VI on each face. Withers 1376, 2.58gm. 1640-1816.

1995. Metal detector finds.
Roman patera handle fragment.
?Middle Saxon pin flattened spherical head, double mouldings as collar.
Iron Age buckle or brooch pin.
?Medieval bronze applied (harness?) disc, with central hole and chevrons in outer border (very finely done) with rocker arm in alternate chevrons and scalloped line as border.
Medieval gilded strap end buckle, moulded and lobed, oval frame with narrow integral attachment plate, pierced boss in centre and elaborate trefoil terminal pierced with three rivet holes.
Medieval gilded probable belt stud, square, convex with each 'facet' delineated with a curved line. Lozenge in centre. Shank on reverse.

Medieval bronze vessel fragment and a bronze foot.
Early 17th century buckle frame with iron bar. Incurved long sides, rounded outer edges, moulded decoration at pin rests and at junction of bar and frame.
