Summary

In 1920 an undated rubbing stone was found in this field. More recent fieldwalking and metal-detecting has recovered a range of object including a potentially Middle Palaeolithic flint Levallois flake; a number of Neolithic worked flints; Roman, Late Saxon and medieval pottery sherds and Roman and medieval coins.

Full description

Record now expanded to whole field and merged with NHER 9638 [1]. A number of finds that were previously recorded under NHER 9663 have also been added to this record, these being object simply found in the vicinity of location and unrelated to the Palaeolithic site.

Found in vicinity of NHER 9663 (Context 3):
Neolithic worked flints.

Identified by J. J. Wymer (NAU) and compiled by W. Milligan (NCM), 16 November 1984.

It should be noted that the NCM's records appear to only make reference to the 1982 finds.

3 Roman coin and pottery sherds (greywares and mortarium sherd).
1 Late Saxon pottery sherd (Thetford-type ware rim sherd).
1 medieval coin and pottery sherd (including jug handle).
