Summary

Fieldwalking in 1994 and metal-detecting in 1994 and 2019 recovered Iron Age to Early Saxon and Late Saxon to post medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval jettons and Roman, Early Saxon, medieval/post-medieval, post-medieval and undated metal objects. The metal finds include a Roman brooch, buckle, furniture fitting and nail; Early Saxon brooches; a medieval/post-medieval buckle, buttons, copper alloy vessel fragments, and a gold finger ring; a post-medieval cloth seal and an undated pair of tweezers.

May/June 1994. Found in a restricted area of search.
2 Roman coins. See list in file.
Roman brooch fragment. Trumpet type, bow fragment, mid bow moulding of 2 projecting transverse ribs with deep groove between, and subsidiary flange below. 1st to 2nd century.
Identified by D. Gurney (NLA).
Lowest part of bow and upper part of foot of largish Early Saxon cruciform brooch, median groove on bow, catchplate damaged. Oldish breaks throughout. See (S1 and S2).
Part of arm of pair of tweezers, not decorated, ?date.
Part of foot of silver gilded 6th to 7th century brooch, presumably of radiate type, with cast animal, cable, and spiral ornament, and inlaid niello. An import.

Found with above metalwork. All sherds very abraded.
6 body sherds gritty, probably Iron Age.
3 body sherds reduced sandy (including 1 with external smoothing and 2 with some organic tempering), Iron Age or Early Saxon.
2 bases and 7 body sherds (including 1 rouletted) Roman greyware.
5 body sherds Roman grey or Thetford type.
4 medieval unglazed.
1 glazed Grimston.
1 Late medieval/early post medieval.
4 reduced unidentified.

August-September 2012. Metal-detecting. Site extended to the whole of the field including two small fields to the west.
Four Roman coins, a 'bell shaped' mount, copper alloy nail or stud and a copper alloy buckle .
Three medieval coins, one jetton, a copper alloy vessel and a button.
Medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel rim fragment.
One post-medieval coin, a lead cloth seal and a copper alloy button.

The medieval/post-medieval gold finger ring was disclaimed as Treasure (Ref: 2018 T100), and returned to the finder.
