Summary

Metal-detecting between 1993 and 2010 recovered a late prehistoric flint flake; medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman and medieval to post-medieval coins; medieval to post-medieval jettons and tokens and undatable and Roman to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undatable lead weights; Roman brooches and a vessel fragment; a Roman/Early Saxon buckle; an Early Saxon buckle; a Middle Saxon strap-end; a Late Saxon stirrup terminal and weight; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval padlock, lead ampulla, book fitting, key, pilgrim badge, seal matrix, spindle whorl and a harness pendant and fitting; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment, chafing dish fragment, an arrowhead, part of a candlestick; a coin weight, spoon knop and a bolster from a tang knife and a post-medieval dagger scabbard, weight, cloth seal, finger ring, thimble, powder measure and crotal bell.

December/January 1994.Metal detecting.
Roman dolphin type brooch. Very large example - 62mm long. Simple moulded decoration; groove running down centre of bow, 1st century AD.
