Summary

Extensive metal-detecting between 1993 to 2014 recovered Iron Age, Roman and medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval clay tobacco pipe fragments; Iron Age, Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and tokens, including a medieval lead Boy Bishop token and Bronze Age to Early Saxon and Late Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age copper alloy ring; Early Iron Age/Roman unidentified object; a large Roman dolphin brooch, strap mount, furniture fitting, hair pin, nail and locking mechanism; Roman/Early Saxon belt stiffener; an Early Saxon brooch and ring; a possible Late Saxon triangular box mount and strap-end; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness stud decorated with a lion passant, purse frame, balance, spur and padlocks; a medieval/post-medieval cloth seal, purse frames and copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval lead weight, cloth seal, book clasp, bell, candle holder, powder measure, thimble and a knife handle end cap in the form of a horse's hoof.

Early Saxon cruciform brooch knob in the round with projecting bronze lug for attachment to headplate.
Post medieval harness mount, two spikes for attachment on reverse and pierced 'hinge' lug on one end.
