Record Details

NHER Number:29930
Type of record:Monument
Name:Medieval settlement and Roman to post-medieval finds from Home Pasture field

Summary

Fragments of medieval and post-medieval pottery, medieval lava quern and a post-medieval clay pipe bowl found during fieldwalking in 1993. A concentration of medieval pottery was found in the northwest of the field, suggesting that this was the site of a small medieval settlement on the edge of a small green shown on an estate map of 1629.
Sporadic metal-detecting between 2010 and 2016 recovered medieval to post-medieval pottery sherds; Roman and medieval coins and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval thimble, padlock and lead pot mend; a medieval/post-medieval book clasp, chafing dish handle and lead spindle whorls and post-medieval bell and lead cloth seal.
