Summary

Metal detecting and fieldwalking between 1993 to 2003 recovered ?Mesolithic, Early Neolithic, Neolithic, ?Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age and undatable prehistoric worked flints; Roman, Late Saxon medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; a probable Roman tile; medieval to post-medieval tiles; Roman and medieval coins; a medieval jetton and Late Bronze Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Bronze Age ring (possibly a spindle whorl); Roman finger rings, brooches, razor, hair pin and ?loop handle; a Middle Saxon brooch; a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount; medieval brooches, buckles and copper alloy vessel fragments; a medieval/post-medieval book clasp and lead window came; post-medieval buckles, bell, sword-belt fitting, lead powder-charge cap and lead cloth seal and undatable copper alloy casting waste and lead weights.

Fragment cutting edge Bronze Age axe, (S2).
Roman protected loop terret, incomplete detailed main loop, otherwise in fine condition.
Late Saxon gilded bronze disc brooch with cruciform interlace motif, central lozenge and three strand 'cross arms' terminating in triangular motifs with three dots in each one. H-shaped lug on reverse and broken catch-plate. A variant of the Borre-style (ring-chain motif). Polaroid NCM.
Two Roman lead biconical steelyard weights. One with bronze loop, one with broken iron loop.
Roman lead spindle-whorl; cast relief decoration in form of five lozenges and surface between with vertical lines.
?Roman spherical headed iron stud with expanded square sectioned shaft tapering to a point.

163 undatable prehistoric flint flakes, 14 cores/flaked lumps 26 scrapers, 4 flake knives, 5 notched pieces, 6 piercers and 45 miscellaneous retouched flakes.
3 ?Early Neolithic flint cores and 7 scrapers.
4 ?later Neolithic discoidal (?Levalloisoid) flint cores.
5 ?Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age small flint scrapers.
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), who noted that, although diagnostic pieces were absent, the majority of these pieces were probably Neolithic to Early Bronze Age. See list and notes in file.
