Summary

Aerial photographs record the cropmarks of a trackway and rectilinear enclosures, and a circular mark which may be the site of a post mill. Pottery sherds from the Roman and medieval periods have also been recovered from this area, as well as a Roman coin and medieval ampulla.

Full description

12 July 1990. NAU air photography.
Cropmarks enclosure/trackway.
Clearly a continuation of site NHER 12142.
Compiled by D. Edwards (NLA), 17 December 1990.

Within known cropmarks a ring ditch and centre mark suggest a post mill - mentioned by farmer. Cursory field walking produced pottery (5m square).
One Greyware body sherd, Roman.
One unglazed body sherd, medieval.
Two Glazed body sherds, medieval.
Two dark grey unglazed, undated.

August 1995. Metal detector finds.
Roman coin (dupondius) and lead ampulla reported. Neither seen.

Trackway and rectilinear enclosures clearly visible. Also circular cropmark, interpreted previously as a post mill, is apparent.

The site can be extended to include the field due south (which centres on [1] ), as the cropmarks of linears and rectilinear enclosures can be seen to continue there.
A trackway and circular feature are also visible.
