Summary

Metal detecting here in 1990 and 2000-05 recovered a diverse collection of objects. Finds included a Middle Saxon/Late Saxon bronze strap end fragment, a Late Saxon stirrup strap mount in the form of a quadruped animal, a medieval seal matrix with a bird motif, a Roman military buckle and a post medieval knife end-cap.

Full description

September 1990. Metal-detecting.
All items are bronze and identified by S. Margeson (NCM).
9th century Middle Saxon/Late Saxon bronze strap end fragment, elongated animal head, with white 'paste' in ears and in central field (whitened niello?). To be photographed.
11th century stirrup strap mount (top missing). Quadruped with tail above back and upward-raised head and front paw. Two iron rivets in base flange which is very even and set at ninety degrees. To be photographed.
14th century circular seal matrix with loop on edge of reverse. Strutting bird. Legend TIMETE DOMINVM.
