Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered a scatter of pieces of prehistoric and medieval pot and a concentration of prehistoric burnt flints. An archaeological watching brief on a water pipeline recorded pieces of Roman, medieval and post medieval pot and some post medieval roofing tile.

Full description

21 October 1987. Fenland fieldwalking, weathered ploughsoil.
Context 1 general scatter. MRM AT.
Odd medieval sherds, and one prehistoric sherd.

Context 2 at 7129 1058. MRM 26.
23m northeast to southwest x 22m northewst to southeast at 5.5m OD. Concentration of comminuted pot boilers sparse to moderate on chalky marl slope above fen edge.

Initial field survey of pipeline route followed by monitoring of topsoil stripping and excavation of pipe trench.
1 Roman pottery sherd (greyware).
1 medieval pottery sherd.
2 post-medieval pottery sherds (1 stoneware and 1 late Glazed Red Earthenware) and 1 tile.
