Summary

Fieldwalking in 1984 recovered Early Saxon, medieval and post-medieval pottery fragments, while metal-detecting between 1997 and 2015 recovered Iron Age, Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons and undatable and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undatable metalworking debris, a weight, copper alloy ingot and a pair of tweezers; a possible Iron Age harness fragment; Roman brooches and an unusual strap-end; a Saxon lead weight; Early Saxon brooches; a Middle Saxon pin; a Late Saxon spindle whorl, bridle bit and strap fitting; medieval to post-medieval dress accessories; a medieval harness pendant, weight, casket key and copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval book fitting, furniture fitting, cloth seal, harness fitting, rowel spur, thimble and powder charge cap or measure.

November 1984. Field north of White House.
Two Early Saxon sherds, medieval to post medieval sherds.

September 1997. Metal detecting. [1].
Medieval cast bronze oval buckle with integral plate. Plate tapering with double collar behind loop and collared plate pierced three times about two thirds of the way along plate. Crudely pointed terminal. One rivet in situ in plate, one behind loop. 13th to 14th century.
