Name:Early Saxon brooch and medieval buckle

Summary

The lower end of a Early Saxon cruciform brooch and a square 15th century silvered copper alloy buckle were found here by metal detecting. These finds are part of a larger Roman to Late Saxon settlement and Early Saxon cemetery complex.

Full description

September 1984. Metal detecting.
Lower end of copper alloy cruciform brooch,'horse head' with widely flaring muzzle and large 'nostrils'. Width across latter 2.4cm; surviving length 3.4cm Early Saxon.
Square strap-end buckle with square impressed design, silvered copper alloy, ?15th century.
