Fieldwalking from 1981 to 1983 recovered a Roman coin, pottery fragments and part of a quern, together with medieval and post medieval pottery fragments.

Roman grey, Samian and colour coated ware mostly 3rd/4th century. Rim and two body sherds possibly overfired?

E. B. Green's (NCM) notes on record card include quern fragment, pudding stone (i.e. Hertfordshire pudding stone, Roman). Also, attached a rubbing or rubbings of samian stamp and a map marked by finder showing finds are from Sustead parish, and a letter.
