Summary

Metal-detecting between 1981 and 2013 recovered a fragment of human skull; prehistoric worked flints including borers, a Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flint blade, Neolithic scrapers and a Late Neolithic Levallois core; Bronze Age and Iron Age to post-medieval pottery sherds; post-medieval roof tile fragments; Roman, Middle Saxon, Late Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; medieval and post-medieval jettons; post-medieval tokens and Iron Age to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated casting waste and a weight; an Iron Age brooch; a Roman fantail brooch fragment, finger ring, nail, pin and spindle whorl; Early/Middle Saxon and Middle Saxon brooches; a Middle/Late Saxon brooch, finger ring and stylus; a Late Saxon bridle bit, harness fitting, stirrup, stylus, weights, finger ring and a furniture fitting; a medieval ferrule, harness pendant, furniture fitting and copper alloy vessel fragment; a medieval/post-medieval bell, rowel spur and weights; a post-medieval harness mount, knife, bell fragment, punch and thimble and dress accessories dating between the Middle Saxon to post-medieval periods.

Frisian Runic type. Obverse: profile diademed head to right. Reverse: cross and pellets.
A very large number of this group were present in the Aston Rowant (Oxon) hoard - one-hundred and sixty-two specimens - found in 1971-4 and buried around 715.
