Record Details

NHER Number:1473
Type of record:Monument
Name:Site of Early Saxon cremation and inhumation cemetery

Summary

Metal-detecting has recovered a large number of Early Saxon finds. These include brooches, wrist clasps, girdle hangers, tweezers, shield bosses, spearheads and rings. These finds indicate that this is the site of an Early Saxon inhumation cemetery. Some of the objects have been melted suggesting some of the cemetery was used for cremated remains.

Other finds include Roman and medieval pottery sherds; Roman coins and post-medieval jettons; aswell as undated, Iron Age, Roman and Middle Saxon to post-medieval metal objects.
