Full description

January 1976. In trench dug to remove oak stump.
1.06m (3ft 6in) below old ground surface but now 15cm (6") deep owing to levelling for show-jumping centre.
Florid cruciform brooch, gilded copper alloy with silvering on foot and knobs which have human faces, (S1).
Also small-long brooch with rectangular head with Y-stamps, found on human clavicle, (S2).
No other associations but sides of trench not studied.
See (S3, S4 and S5) in the Illustration Library.
A. Gregory (NAU) 1976.

Early 1983. In same area as Early Saxon finds (above). Found with metal detecting.
Copper alloy coin-die looking like sawn-off antler and three uniface silver coins from this die. A fourth identical coin found about 9m (10 yards) away. Die has very crude and nasty triple-tailed horse.
All thought to be modern forgeries by British Museum (Coins and Medals).
A. Gregory (NAU) 3 May 1983.
