Name:Possible Roman Villa site, Topcroft

Summary

Roman pottery sherds and tile fragments have been visible in this area since 1959. In 1984 a very heavy concentration of flint and brick rubble, as well as almost complete tiles with opus signinum fragments were recovered and wall plaster. Coins from the late 1st to 4th centuries have been recovered from the area, as well as brooches from the same periods.
Metal-detecting in 2019 recovered Roman pottery sherds, tegula, and flue tile fragments, as well as Roman coins and brooch fragments.

1959 - 1960. Roman sherds and tile found.
1979. Roman sherds found; cropmarks claimed.
1980. Traces of Roman villa found.
1982 - 1986. Found with metal detector. Roman and medieval metalwork, Iron Age coin. Evidence of bath house.
1990. Found with metal detector. Roman coins and brooch.
1992. Roman tile found
1997. Metal detector find. Roman coins.
