Summary

Metal detecting recovered a gold fitting with a glass inlay which was probably part of a 16th century dress fastener. Similar objects can be seen in 16th English painted portraits but no other examples are known to have been reported as Treasure or in public collections.

Before 31 March 2003. Metal detecting.
Gold fitting with glass inlay (weighing 0.79g), probably part of a 16th century dress fastener. Submitted for consideration as Treasure. Further details of identification to follow from British Museum.
