Summary

Fieldwalking has revealed Roman, medieval and post medieval artefacts. The numerous pieces of Roman pottery indicates that there was probably a Roman settlement on the site.

Full description

Early March 2003. Fieldwalking.
Within NHER 26760.
Spoil spread over surrounding field from excavation of new pond and of ditch from old pond to the south yielded a large amount of predominantly 2nd/early 3rd century Roman pottery, including many fresh sherds.
A few medieval and only one post medieval sherd.
The Roman material indicates settlement.

Further finds of Roman pottery: seventeen greyware, two buff oxidised and one Nene Valley colour coated (139g). One glazed Grimston.
