Summary

Metal-detecting between 1997 and 2012 recovered a Neolithic flint flake; Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, Middle Saxon and medieval pottery sherds; a Late Saxon and medieval whetstones; Roman, medieval and post-medieval coins and undated, Iron Age, Roman, Early Saxon, Middle Saxon and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undated metalworking debris; an Iron Age brooch; a Roman brooch and part of a spoon; an Early Saxon bow brooch, mount, pair of tweezers and wrist clasp fragment; a Middle Saxon spoon; medieval and post-medieval dress accessories and thimbles; a medieval papal bulla of Edward I; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval furniture fitting. The nature of the Early Saxon finds may suggest the presence of Early Saxon inhumation burials.
