Summary

Metal detecting in 1998 and 2006 recovered a Palaeolithic flint handaxe (the form of which suggests a Middle Palaeolithic date); medieval coins; a post-medieval token and medieval to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a medieval harness mount, buckle and copper alloy vessel fragment; a medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment and a post-medieval dress hook, ?mount and lead weight.

1998. Metal-detecting.
Found in area centred [1]:
1 Palaeolithic sub-cordate flint handaxe. Perhaps Middle Palaeolithic. See drawing (S1).
2 medieval coins, 1 buckle and 1 copper alloy vessel fragment.
1 medieval/post-medieval copper alloy vessel fragment.
1 post-medieval jetton, 1 ?mount, 1 lead weight and 2 lead window cames.
1 undatable lead weight and 2 lead ?weights.
Handaxe identified by P. Robins (NCM), numismatic items by J. Davies (NCM) and other objects by A. Rogerson (NLA). See list and descriptions in file. These discoveries were reported in (S2) and the handaxe is also noted on (S3).
