Name:Multi-period prehistoric worked flints

Summary

Fieldwalking in 1995 recovered some 339 worked flints, including a ?Mesolithic pick; an Early Neolithic leaf arrowhead and possible laurel leaves; Neolithic axehead roughouts and at least one Late Neolithic/Early Bronze plano convex knife. The bulk of the assemblage was however not closely datable, although it was noted that some of the fresher pieces could potentially be a recent as Early Iron Age.

Full description

April/May 1995. Fieldwalking.
166 undatable prehistoric flint flakes, 8 cores, 4 core trimming flakes, 63 scrapers (including 20 end scrapers), 14 flake knives, 7 notched pieces, 12 piercers, strike-a-light and 34 miscellaneous retouched flakes.
1 ?Mesolithic flint pick.
2 Early Neolithic ?unfinished laurel leaves and 1 leaf arrowhead.
5 ?Late Neolithic discoidal (Levalloisoidal) cores and 3 flakes possibly struck from such cores.
2 Neolithic flint axe roughouts.
1 Late Neolithic/Early Bronze Age plano-convex knife and 1 ?plano-convex knife.
Identified by P. Robins (NCM), who noted that while much of the material was not closely datable, some of the fresher flakes, notched pieces and piercers could be as recent as Early Iron Age.
