Name:Mesolithic flints and later finds

Summary

A number of Mesolithic worked flints, including blades, microburins and a microlithic, found on road embankments. Burnt flints and sherds of prehistoric and medieval pottery were also recovered. The soil for these embankments was believed to have come from a nearby hill that was cut through by the new road.

Full description

May 1979. Stray Find.
Various finds, the majority from two embankments on the new A10 re-alignment. The soil for these embankments had come from a sand and carstone hill which the new road was cut through. The finds found are as follows:
60 Mesolithic and undatable prehistoric flints, mostly blades (2cm-7cm long) but also scrapers, retouched flakes, microburins and 1 "fine" microlith. Some are patinated. See finder's drawings (S1).
6 ?prehistoric pottery sherds and 'pot boilers' [burnt flints].
Medieval pottery sherds.
