Summary

Fieldwalking as part of the Fenland Survey recovered a small concentration of prehistoric burnt flints. Metal detecting recovered a 10th century Viking disc brooch.

Full description

11 February 1987. Fenland fieldwalking, young cereal; in well weathered soil.
Sparse, locally moderate pot boiler spread on chalk soil, with gravel flat. Maximum 36m north to south x 26m east to west at 5.5m OD.

?1987. Metal detecting finds. Field '2/3rds surrounded by trees' near Marsham Hall, known as 'Park Field' locally.
Findspot described in letter to S. Margeson (NCM), 28 November 1990.
Late Saxon disc brooch, Insular Viking 10th century, with worn cast decoration consisting of cross motif in centre, interlace in four quadrants around. Single lug and catch-plate on reverse.
