Record Details

NHER Number:21627
Type of record:Monument
Name:Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age site, Late Saxon pottery works, medieval settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

Fragments of Beaker pottery found during field walking suggests that this site was occupied during the Late Neolithic or Early Bronze Age, although the nature of that occupation is uncertain. This is also the site of a Late Saxon pottery works, which was producing Thetford ware during the late 10th and 11th centuries. It is extremely rare to find evidence of Late Saxon pottery production in a rural area. During the medieval period a small common edge settlement developed on the site. Field walking recovered prehistoric flints, pottery dating from the Iron Age to the post medieval periods, and a Roman brooch.
