Name:Post medieval silver coin hoard

Summary

A hoard of 129 silver post medieval shillings stored in a silver cup were found by a digger driver working on a new housing development. The coins date from 1554 to 1643 and were probably buried during the unrest that led up to the siege of Lynn in August 1683.

Full description

12 July 1984. Found by digger driver working on new housing estate.
Hoard of silver shillings in sterling silver cup hallmarked London 1607-8.
129 shillings ranging from 1554 to 1557 to 1641 to 1643.
One Philip and Mary I, thrity-one Elizabeth I, twenty-one James I, seventy-two Charles I.
Presumed connection with troubled period leading up to seige of Lynn in August 1643.
