Monitoring of groundworks associated with installation of Anglian Water pipeline.
At the point at which the pipe trench crossed the line of the Roman road a layer of flinty gravel metalling approximately 4m wide was visible at a depth of approximately 0.3m. No roadside ditches were visible.
