Name:Site of Iron Age settlement and multi-period finds

Summary

This is the site of an Iron Age settlement, and Iron Age pottery has been found by fieldwalking. Prehistoric flint flakes, and pottery dating from the Iron Age to the post medieval period has also been found by fieldwalking.

Pre 1974.
Context 1.
Glazed 16th century pottery waster.
See (S1).
E. Rose (NAU) 2 October 1981.

17 February 1983. Fieldwalking in poor to medium conditions.
BB 49. In south-east corner of field, as Context 1 above.
Concentration of medieval pottery.
2 flint flakes.
Medieval unglazed and glazed Grimston.
A little post medieval including rim of jar?
Vitrified presumed waster at 7360 0421 (and presumed post medieval).
Context 2.
Rest of field centred TF 7350 0425. BB 48.
Thin scatter, thickest to south and east of medieval unglazed, glazed Grimston and post medieval.

3 March 1988. Further Barton Bendish survey fieldwork of Context 2 again.
Now called BB 1063 and Context 3 (BB 1062).
Finds of Iron Age, Roman, Late Saxon, medieval and post medieval sherds.
