Full description

1980. Fieldwalking.
Found by [1] (finder's Site 20b):
?Mesolithic/Early Neolithic flints ("very early Neolithic with strong Mesolithic traits") including 7 scrapers, 1 bifacial tool, 22 "points" and ?burins, 100 blades, 6 blade cores and 3 irregular cores.
Several ?Early Saxon handmade pottery sherds.
Several medieval sherds (including green-glazed Grimston - all abraded).
Identified by E. Rose (NAU) and A. Lawson (NAU). Compiled by E. Rose (NAU), 25 July 1980.
Information from (S1).

There appears to be a certain amount of confusion between these finds and material recorded as being from nearby NHER 16390. The record of the material recovered at NHER 16390 (by the same finder and at the same time) lists a collection of "additional" finds, including 250 small flakes, 7 scrapers, 1 bifacially worked knife, 22 "points/broken blades", 100 blades, 6 blade cores, 3 irregular cores, 15 prehistoric pottery sherds and 5 medieval sherds. It seems highly likely that most, if not all, of these are in fact the finds described above (which would account for the surprising absence of any unmodified flakes in the original list). If this is indeed the case it would suggest that the ?Early Saxon sherds are in fact prehistoric (and probably Early Neolithic).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 19 May 2014.

1983. Fieldwalking.
Details as above.
Early Neolithic flint flakes.
Identified by S. Margeson (NCM), 11 July 1983.
Information from (S1).
Amended by P. Watkins (HES), 19 May 2014.
