Name:Prehistoric field system and pits

Summary

Prehistoric flint flakes were found here on the surface of the field. Fieldwalking in advance of the Norwich southern bypass found more worked flints. A watching brief recovered evidence of prehistoric pits filled with burnt material. An evaluation in advance of the development of a new Village Hall found a prehistoric field system separated by ditches containing burnt material.

1979 to 1980. Found on surface of ploughed field. Context 2 at 1406 1104.
Two struck flint flakes.

9 September 1998. Central area of site between the old and new A47s deturfed for new football pitch.
No subsoil exposed, no finds seen in rapid walkover. New topsoil being imported is from the Norfolk and Norwich Hospital site (NHER 31871).
