Summary

On 23 August 1942 a German bomber aircraft crashed in Walton Wood. The wreckage was removed at the time of the crash, although a few fragments of metal have been found since.

Full description

23 August 1942. 'In Walton Wood at East Walton' (wood centred TF 740 156).
Dornier 217 (Do-217E-4 U5+SK wk/m 4267 of 2/KG-2) crashed at 23.25 hours after successful attack by British fighter.
Fenland Aircraft Preservation Society found 'only burnt scraps', probably in 1970s.

(S1) refers to much molten aluminium, and burnt trees. Most of wreckage was removed at time of crash.
