Summary
Inhumations, probably of medieval date, have been found on this site, which is close to St Mary's Church, see NHER 10746, and the possible location of another medieval chuch, or chapel, known as St Peter's, see NHER 10750.

Full description
October 1956.
Under roadway south of crossroads leading to church about 76cm below surface.
Human skeleton found lying east to west, while cutting narrow trench for water main.
No indication of date; perhaps medieval.
Bones were in hollow of dark material in sandy gravel.
Bones seen by sources [1] and [2], but not preserved.
September 1978.
Same location.
Human skeleton, head to west, found emerging from scarp beside road where it dips down to the Waveney Inn, exposed by weathering erosion.
Seen by A. Rogerson (NAU) but mostly removed by local policemen and pathologists.
Upper arms and vertebrae in position; cranium not exposed because under roadside hedge.
Depth from surface 1m in very heavily root disturbed brown sand overlying yellow sand and gravel and underlying topsoil.
Bones collected.
25 July 1996. Watching Brief.
Observation of trenches excavated for extension to east side of Staithe Farm immediately adjacent to find spot of skeleton.
Made up ground to depth of 0.85m. Natural not penetrated.
Masses of 19th century rubble and rubbish, and later material, discarded.
No archaeological features.
Single sherd of Middle Saxon pot, residual.
