Name:Late Bronze Age hoard found at Gorleston on Sea

Summary

A Late Bronze Age hoard of over thirty objects, including copper alloy socketed axes, spearheads, sword fragments and a jet were found during bulldozing in 1962 and laying a sewer in 1966. The hoard may be a metalworker's collection of material buried for safekeeping. This was found close to another Bronze Age hoard (NHER 10556).

Full description

?1962. Stray Find.
Fould while bulldozing [1]:
Between ten and twenty bronze axes found by driver. Two seen by [2].
Reported by [3].

Late Bronze Age Hoard II:
6 socketed axes.
Spearheads - two broken.
?2 complete ones.
Information from [4].
Sword - hilt and blade tip fragment.
Jet (casting debris).
These discoveries were noted in (S2).

As noted by (S3) the Birmingham Museum holds the majority of these objects (4 socketed axes, 2 sword fragments, 2 spearheads and 1 casting jet; Bir 1966A668.1-9)- see drawings (S4)-(S6) and photograph (S7).
The other socketed axes remained in private hands - see drawings (S8)-(S9).
