Summary

Iron two-leaf gate with cage-type gate piers, flanked by symmetrical sections of curving railings on gault brick plinths. These date to c. 1790 and are probably associated with Sir John Soane, who built Shotesham Park mansion itself (NHER 10114) in around 1785. Listed Grade II.

Gates and adjoining railings at western entrance to Shotesham Park (NHER 30523), adjacent to lodge (NHER 45332).
Previously recorded under NHER 30523.

December 1983. Listed, Grade II.
Listing Description excerpt:
"Railings. Circa 1790. Probably associated with Sir John Soane. Iron underbuilt in gault brick. Two leaf gate flanked by symmetrical sections of curving railings ogee in plan. Spear shaped railings with similar dog rail. Cage type gate piers with lozenge shaped bars and scrolled overthrows."
