Name:Early Saxon inhumation cemetery

Summary

An Early Saxon inhumation cemetery was found here in 1838-9. A vast array of finds were recovered including brooches, swords, forty shield bosses, a silver bracelet and eighty or so glass or amber beads. These artefacts were given to the British Museum and other organisations. More recent metal detecting in 1990 recovered a medieval buckle and medieval pot sherds. An evaluation in 1998 recorded only a relict stream.

Single trench excavated revealed nothing except a relict stream.

The necklace found in the 1830s may be that in the collections of the Museo Nazionale di Villa Giulia.
