Name:Roman ditches and multi-period finds

Summary

Roman pottery, tile and brick fragments were found in 2003 on the beach in ditches lying at forty five degrees to the coastline. It is possible that this was a salt making site, but the results of further investigations are awaited. Additional Roman and Middle Saxon pottery sherds were recovered in 2013.

December 2003. Visited by T. Pestell and B. Ayers (NMAS).
Series of ditches lying at 45 degrees to the coastline. Possibility that it's a saltern site.
Looks to be covered with an ancient topsoil, also containing Roman pottery and building material.
T. Pestell has seen a photograph of a waterlogged wooden structure which is probably related but difficult to tell.
Details to come.
