Summary

An evaluation carried out in 2003 recovered a scatter of prehistoric flints, medieval pottery, Roman and medieval building materials, and three medieval silver coins. Excavation recorded a ditch of possible modern age, as well as a possible pit or post hole. Medieval habitation at the west end of the field, alongside Snakes Lane, is indicated. Before June 2010 an Iron Age coin was recovered from the south-eastern edge of the field.

Full description

March 2003. Systematic Fieldwalking and Metal-detecting Survey and Trial Trenching.
Field survey and subsequent trial trenching evaluation within footprint of proposed fish lake.
Thin scatter of prehistoric flints.
Scatter of medieval pottery, and three medieval silver coins.
Medieval habitation at the west end of the field, alongside Snakes Lane is indicated.
