Record Details

NHER Number:3673
Type of record:Monument
Name:Rougham shrunken village

Summary

The earthworks of the deserted medieval village and manorial site here were identified using aerial photographs taken in 1946. A huge number of finds from this location were recovered during 1967-99 including Roman, Saxon, medieval and post medieval pottery sherds and metalwork. All this evidence has established that the major occupation here spanned from the 11th to the 15th century. Sadly much of the site was bulldozed in 1967 but what remains is now under archaeological management.
