Summary

Systematic fieldwalking and metal-detecting between 1997 and 2000 has recovered a range of finds including burnt flint; undatable prehistoric worked flints; a Mesolithic flint microlith; Neolithic polished flint axehead and miniature flint axehead; Iron Age, ?Roman, medieval, medieval/post-medieval and post-medieval pottery sherds; undatable iron slag; Roman, Middle Saxon, medieval and post-medieval coins; a post-medieval jetton and token and a number of other metal objects. The metal finds include a Bronze Age socketed axehead; an Iron Age tankard handle and Roman and Early Saxon brooches

Full description

October 1997. Systematic fieldwalking survey.
Fieldwalking in transects and stints by [1]. The finds recovered were:
63 ?prehistoric burnt flints.
19 undatable prehistoric flint flakes, 11 retouched flakes, 1 ?scraper, 1 notched flake and 1 borer.
1 Mesolithic flint microlith. Blade with backing on distal tip. Either an anomalous microlith or the basal fragment of a conventional Later Mesolithic microlith. See drawing (S1). Also illustrated in (S2).
1 Neolithic partly polished flint axehead and 1 miniature flint axehead (S1). Both illustrated in (S2).
3 Iron Age pottery sherds.
3 ?Iron Age pottery sherds.
2 ?Roman pottery sherds.
28 medieval pottery sherds. Several illustrated in (S2).
8 medieval/post-medieval pottery sherds. One illustrated in (S2).
2 post-medieval pottery sherds.
5 undatable pottery sherds, 2 iron slag lump and 1 oyster shell.
