Summary

Metal-detecting in 1993 recovered a post-medieval coin as well as Late Saxon to medieval metal objects. The metal finds include a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount, depicting an animal with a raised head and a raised front paw, and a medieval brooch fragment, casket mount and strap union fragment.

Full description

1993. Metal detector finds.
Late Saxon fragment of hollow cast 'foot' (animal head type).
Medieval - possibly a huge conical boss from a rather enormous ring brooch. Fragment of bronze 'ring' (sheet with pierced rivet hole) white paste in setting in top of boss.
?Medieval or earlier? bronze moulded 'key hole' shaped strap union (two narrow bars for strap attachment) tiny.
Medieval strip (casket mount) decorated with low relief chevrons, opposing (groups of four).

Lovely Late Saxon box mount, trefoil terminal and iron rivet. Animal with raised head and raised front paw. Flange at right angles. Iron rivet near base (through animal body) (S1). This find was reidentified as a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount by D. Williams in 1997, see Monograph (S2).
