Summary

Metal-detecting in 1992 and 1993 recovered medieval coins; a post-medieval token and undatable and Early Saxon to post-medieval metal objects. The metal finds include undatable metalworking debris; Early Saxon brooch fragments and a copper alloy bead; a Middle Saxon strap-end; a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount; a medieval brooch, buckle, belt fitting, harness pendant, vessel fragment and seal matrix and a pair of small post-medieval shears or tweezers.

Full description

June 1992. Metal detector finds.
Middle Saxon strap end with animal head terminal pierced lobes at top, shield shaped field below (inlaid with white paste ?enamel) and below a circular field with trace of silver wire inlay (below inlay in shield shaped field is hatching).
Polaroid (S1) in file.
Lead 12th/13th century seal matrix lozenge shaped with fleur-de-lis within lozenge. SIGIL ALICIE RELICIE RIC.
Illegible short cross penny Plantagenet King 1180-1247. Canterbury mint.

Post medieval tiny bronze shears or tweezers (decorated).

Two Early Saxon brooch fragments and ?bead.
11th century box mount. This find was reidentified as a Late Saxon stirrup-strap mount by D. Williams in 1997, see Monograph (S2).
Two medieval buckle fragments, belt fitting, harness pendant, vessel fragment, lead token and bronze waste.
One hexagonal brooch/buckle.
