Summary

Extensive metal detecting at this location from 1993-99 retrieved a selection of multi period metal objects. Noteworthy finds comprised a medieval gild bronze casket mount, an Early Saxon mount with an animal head and eye at each end of the inside bar and an Iron Age La Tene type brooch.

1993. Metal detector find.
13th century medieval gild bronze casket mount and transverse mouldings and beginning of decorative terminal (broken).

Object reidentified as 1st century AD Iron Age openwork circular strap end with two curved 'motifs' inside.

At location [2]. Early Saxon mount, four shanks on reverse. Lozenge shaped plate in centre and boss containing white paste. At each end, on inside of bar, a style I animal head and eye! (S7)

At location [3]. 14th century strap-end with acorn terminal, and very neat rocker- arm ornament, central longitudinal row, and zig-zag on each side.

14th century rectangular buckle frame with ridged pin seat. Folded sheet bronze plate with punched linear decoration. Pin swivel hole and single attachment stud.
