Summary

The bank that stands here was built in 1906-08 by G. J. Skipper. In 1973 test holes were dug in the basement and near London Street and Castle Meadow street frontages. These unearthed medieval pottery sherds, animal and fish bones and part of a ditch possibly relating to the castle. A number of post medieval finds of a similar nature were also recovered.

Bank. Built in 1906-08 by G. J. Skipper.

1973. Deep test holes in basement and near London Street and Castle Meadow street frontages.
Medieval sherds, animal and fish bones, ?castle ditch.
17th century costrel sherds, lead glazed earthenware and animal bones.
Lead glazed pipkin.
